The Northside Swim Center is expected to reopen by Saturday, said Kristi Kent, public information officer for the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority on Thursday.

The pool was not open Thursday because of a broken pump that Kent said was currently being repaired.

“The motor that runs the pool pump broke down,” Kent explained. “The RFPRA hopes to have the motor for the pump repaired quickly so that the pool can reopen to the public by this Saturday.”

It will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., she said.

Between the cost of repairs and the loss of admission and concession sales, Kent estimated the total loss of revenue to be about $2,200.

The closure came at a bad time, with the high in Rome hitting 101 degrees on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. There will little relief in the upcoming days.

The following is the short-term forecast from the NWS:

Today: A 30-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 98.

Saturday: A 40-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 98.

Sunday: A 40-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 96.

Monday: A 50-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 94.

Tuesday: A 40-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 93.

they have enough money to buy a pump, considering how much they charge per person and for the season passes.
