The 9-year-old Rome Red Sox all-star team is in the hunt for a district championship.

Playing in the Dizzy Dean district tourney in Dallas, the Red Sox have posted a 2-1 record thus far in the double-elimination tournament.

After downing the Oregon Park Sharks 11-0 on Friday night, the Red Sox opened Saturday’s action with a win over the Powder Springs Fighting Hogs.

Pitchers Daulton Waddell and Conner Hughes combined on a two-hitter and racked up 11 strikeouts.

The Sox then dropped their next game, 11-4, to Bartow Blue.

They will be back in action at 6:30 on Monday night, and with a victory they will advance to Tuesday’s title game.
