Kierra Smith of Rome is participating in the Illinois Summer Neuroscience Institute which takes place annually on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

ISNI is an intensive week of research lectures, lab experiences and team projects for visiting undergraduate students to be introduced to research and to receive information about graduate school and possible careers in neuroscience.

Smith joins 27 other exceptional undergraduates from around the country who will shadow graduate students, complete brain dissections and present research to their peers as they are immersed in the field of neuroscience.

Smith is a student at Bethune-Cookman University, majoring in chemistry.

Smith is the daughter of Leticia Smith and Kevin Smith, the granddaughter of William and Cindy Garrett of Rome and a 2010 graduate of Coosa High School.
