The Telegraph of Macon reports the group of mostly smaller schools scattered across south Georgia met in Rochelle on Tuesday to take the next step in breaking away from the group. The group decided to continue toward possibly forming what could be Georgia's third athletics association.
About 100 football coaches, principals, superintendents and others were at the meeting. School officials say they were frustrated with how the association handles issues involving private schools, which are perceived as having an unfair advantage in recruiting.
Wilcox County head football coach Mark Ledford said "the turnout showed that it was more than just a few south Georgia schools upset" with the association.
