The first Summer Poetry Night of the season will be bittersweet for many in attendance as Rome’s literary community says goodbye to Mike Mejia and Mindy Wilson, two influential forces on the Georgia literary scene who are leaving Rome for Salt Lake City, Utah.

To honor them, organizers of Summer Poetry Night have asked Mejia to share some of his work at the event which takes place May 31 at Schroeder’s Courtyard on Broad Street starting at 7 p.m.

Mindy served as the managing editor for the award-winning literary magazine based out of the University of Georgia, “The Georgia Review.” Mejia spent seven years teaching at Berry College and co-founded Nine Bark Press. Both have volunteered and contributed to RACA, the Rome Infternational Film Festival as well as other local organizations.

Other local writers who will share their work at the upcoming Poetry Night include Susan G. Harvey, Sandra Meek and Abby Greenbaum.

In case of inclement weather, the event will move to Swift and Finch Coffee Shop on the corner of Broad Street and Sixth Avenue.
