The imminent sale of Bob Williams Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep to Cartersville-based auto entrepreneur Terry Reid isn’t a done deal yet, however the city of Rome issued Reid a business license for Terry Reid Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram on July 3.

Williams confirmed that a deal was in the works but said that paperwork had not been completed. In fact, Williams said he expected to close early this week but was notified by bank officials just before closing last Friday, July 13, that the paperwork was not complete.

Williams, who is 69 years of age, has been in the automotive industry locally for 50 years.

“I’m tired,” Williams said with a laugh Friday afternoon.

Williams has held the local Chrysler franchise for 32 years. His original dealership was located on Rockmart Highway, and then he moved to Martha Berry Boulevard across from Scant’s Corner before moving to his current location on Calhoun Highway.

Reid owns several dealerships, including his flagship Kia lot on North Tennessee Street in Cartersville. In addition to the Kia store, Reid also has a Hyundai franchise on Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville and at one time had a Mitsubishi dealership on Martha Berry Highway near Mount Berry Square mall.

The Rome News-Tribune attempted to contact Reid on Friday, July 20, for comment. However calls to his primary dealership in Cartersville were not returned.

I purchased a 2010 Kia Sorento from Terry Reid Kia in Cartersville. I have enjoyed it tremendously. I was never pressured to buy. I came looking to buy and bought a fine vehicle that has given no trouble and provided me thousands of miles of fine service.

I have also purchased vehicles from Bob. I think he's a fine man and is certainly entitled to his opinion. If someone chooses not to buy from him because he offers his opinion it's their loss.

Hometown Headlines is reporting there are several more hurdles to cross before the deal is finalized. That it may take several more weeks.

What a contrast of owners:

Bob Williams was a country gentleman in doing car sales, let you buy at your own pace, great service department, same people always there, didn't waste money on loud obnoxious advertisements..

Terry reid dealerships are flashy, never the same people working there from 1 sevice time to the next, terrible commercials with blanketed ads, jam thier sales dow your throat, aggravate you to death with repeated sales calls till you break down and buy and stick it to you pricing.

I will never buy anything else from a Terry Reid dealership and now I am looking at having more Terry Reid ads forced into my ears on every radio station in town. I for one will not patronize his new dealership.

formercavespringresitdent... if you had ever been in the showroom when Bob Williams went on one of his rants about blacks or other minorities you wouldn't call him a country gentleman. I happened to witness one a couple of years ago while shopping for a new car and decided to spend my money elsewhere.

I guarantee at least one of his employees does NOT think he is a "country gentleman"!!!

I love to listen to Bob rant about how the "minorities" get anything they want. Nothing wrong with being opinionated about what you believe in. another thing I admire about Bob is the way he took care of local sports teams and has been a pillar in this community for nearly 35 years. As for more hurdles to clear, not true. The deal is done, stock has been transfered to Terry Ried, all of Bob's stuff has been removed.

FormerCS res. - you may be right, but read the above article: “Bob Williams said the deal isn't finalized yet.” Guess everyone will have to do some research and play catch up.

Yes on July the third there were some hurdles to cross. That was 17 days ago. When they answer the phone up there, they answer it Rome Dodge. Deal done and Bob is gone. Check out the Chrysler website on 35 years of Bob Williams Dodge and the new owner

No thanks formercsres. If that is the case, just glad he is gone. I disagree with the “country gentleman” title. Never did like him or the product

If Reid gets this dealership I hope it is run better than his other dealership attempts.
