A release from World Energy, the parent company for U.S. Biofuels in Rome, claims that a Friday fire at the West Hermitage Road plant was caused by a chemical reaction.

According to World Energy vice president for logistics and operations Brennan Marusa, what kind of chemical reaction sparked the fire is still unknown.

The release went on to state one employee was taken to Floyd Medical Center and was released after being treated for minor burns. His name was not released.

The statement also reported that employees were able to extinguish the fire and contacted the fire department after it was out.

World Energy also reported no structural or equipment damage was caused.

Previously posted 7/21/12:

Rome-Floyd Fire Department officials and Floyd County police responded to a fire at U.S. Biofuels Inc., located at 555 W. Hermitage Road in Shannon, just after 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 20.

According to Battalion Chief Troy Brock:

The fire was caused by a chemical reaction, and one person, whose identity was not released Friday night, was injured and taken to Floyd Medical Center for treatment.

Brock was unable to confirm how damaged the structure was, as fire officials could not access the damaged area.

The fire marshal was summoned to the scene to further investigate the incident.

So if I'm driving my 18 wheeler...and a truck hits me and causes an accident that is then my employers fault becuase he put my life in danger? Lol....that really doesn't make much sense....you obviously don't work or haven't worked anywhere but an office job. where the only accidents that could possibly happen is you get carpol tunnel or paper cut yourself. so from what you said your employer by allowing that has put you at risk...hmmm...I guess I should quit my driving job becuase when I get on the express way my employer puts me at risk? There is always risk in any job, and because an accident occurs it is the employers fault?? That is what you are saying....so a fire station or police department should shut down because they are putting their employee's at risk? Who would come to you when your house is on fire or you got mugged then? I don't know the people at that facility so I cannot portray anyone in any light. But you are desperatly trying to grab for anything that says its the employer putting people in danger with no proof or evidence to support such a claim. Also glad to know you listened in basic 6th grade science. Maybe offer your astounding knowledge of matches to wood to them??? Other than that I really don't know what to tell you besides let it be....or continue to rant about how every employer in the united states puts workers at risk....sometimes things just happen, and it's neither employers or employees fault.
