The Northwest Georgia chapter of the United Veterans of the Armed Forces awarded scholarships to area students recently. The recipients are:

  • Akeia Davenport graduated from Pepperell High School in Lindale. She is the daughter of John Davenport III and Sherricka Burdette. She plans to attend Georgia Northwestern Technical College to study sociology.

  • Douglas B. Jones Jr. graduated from Cartersville High School in Cartersville. He is the son of Melissa Jones Smith. He plans to attend Auburn University to study pre-law.

  • Jordan C. Edmondson graduated from Coosa High School. He is the son of Nevie and Sonja Edmondson. He plans to attend Reinhardt University to study pre-med.

  • Laron Hamilton graduated from Gordon Central High School in Calhoun. He is the son of James and Debbie Hamilton. He plans to attend Dalton State College for pharmacy.

  • Khalia L. Hambrick graduated from Chattooga High School in Summerville. She is the daughter of the Rev. Terrence Hambrick and Ramona Hambrick. She plans to attend Spelman College in Atlanta to study economics.

  • Kilas Jeanna Richey graduated from Cass High School in White. She is the daughter of Tecia and Lorenzo Cottan and Silas Richey. She plans to attend Chattahoochee Technical College to study to be a surgical technician.

  • Rikki A. Stevenson graduated from Rome High School. She is the daughter of Ricki and Sundai Stevenson. She plans to attend Auburn University to study psychology.

  • Destiny Whatley graduated from Cedartown High School. She is the daughter of Maurice and Synette Whatley. She plans to attend Northwest Georgia Technical College to study cosmetology.
