Four people were still being treated at Floyd Medical Center Friday night after they were involved in a head-on collision following a four-vehicle wreck on Shorter Avenue just after 7 p.m. on Friday.

Rome police and Rome-Floyd Fire Department officials responded to the scene that had traffic temporarily backed up.

According to Rome police officer Glenn Atkins:

Ashley Nuno, 21, of a Griffin Road address, was pulling out of Williamson Street in her silver Acura as Keysha Wallace, 39, of an Orchid Street address in Summerville, was driving east on Shorter Avenue in her black PT Cruiser. Nuno clipped the rear end of Wallace’s vehicle, causing it to spin into oncoming traffic.

As Wallace’s PT Cruiser was spinning, she struck a Chevrolet pickup head-on driven by Shirley Stephens, 65, of a Stephens Road address in Cedartown. The impact knocked the truck onto the curb in the westbound lanes of Shorter Avenue. Stephens’ husband Ernest Stephens, 67, was with her in the vehicle.

The PT Cruiser also struck the back end of a black Maxima driven by Leticia Hernandez, of a Burnett Ferry Road address. Hernandez was also heading west.

Both Shirley and Ernest Stephens, along with Nuno and Wallace were taken to FMC for evaluation and treatment.

Shirley Stephens, Nuno and Wallace were all still being treated in the Emergency Room Friday night, according to a hospital spokeswoman, and Ernest Stephens had been in the ER but was moved to a hospital room.

Atkins said Nuno was cited with failure to yield.
