ATLANTA -- Some of the thousands expected to see the slate of state officers sworn in next week will take home bags of goodies, the Nathan Deal inaugural committee announced Monday.

The committee announced that "special guests" of Gov.-elect Deal will receive assorted products donated by small businesses from across the state. The products were grown or produced in Georgia, from peaches and peanuts to neckties, soaps and doormats.

It's common for people attending conventions and trade shows to receive tote bags filled with novelties like pens, paperweights and product samples. At Hollywood awards events, companies compete for the opportunity to have their products included so they can bring it up in their advertising.

Deal's announcement calls the inaugural gift bags a reminder of the jobs created and economic impact of small businesses.

"When the guests of the inaugural return home, we want Georgia to be first and foremost on their minds," said Tricia Pridemore, co-chair of the Inaugural Committee.
