State Mutual Stadium is likely to have a high number of autograph seekers this weekend, when Chipper Jones is scheduled to suit up for the Rome Braves on a rehab assignment.

Jones, the former NL MVP and future Hall of Famer, is recovering from knee surgery, and is tentatively slated to play for the R-Braves on Friday and Saturday at SMS.

The R-Braves host Delmarva tonight in the opener of a three-game series, then host Kannapolis in a four-game series that starts Saturday.

Atlanta Braves general manager Frank Wren told reporters on Monday that Jones was slated to make a visit to Rome.

As of Tuesday night, however, the Rome Braves front office said that they have not yet received any official word from Atlanta pertaining to Jones’ rehab stint in Rome.

Jones, who underwent knee surgery to repair a cartilage tear nine days ago, is likely to be used a designated hitter on Friday and Saturday.

This would be Jones’ third rehab assignment in Rome. He played one game for the R-Braves in 2004 (going 0-for-4), and then returned for a three-game rehab stint in 2005 (going 3-for-6 with two RBIs).
