Lt. Col. Seaborn Jones Whatley was promoted to the rank of colonel in the United States Air Force in a ceremony at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Whatley is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Seaborn J. Whatley of Shannon. He graduated in 1985 from Model High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Military Institute and master’s degrees from American Military University, Air Command and Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

Whatley is currently acting deputy director of Logistics and Engineering, Headquarters North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command at Peterson Air Force Base.
