A Gordon County man is dead in an apparent home invasion homicide and deputies were looking late Saturday for a third person they believe may have knowledge of the crime.

Jason David Hammond, 42, of 394 Union Grove Church Road, was fatally shot early Saturday morning.

According to the report from the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at a Union Grove home early Saturday morning and found Hammond dead.

They were told by witnesses that three males had come to the residence, demanding money and eventually shot the victim.

They said the three suspects then fled the home, according to the report.

Two people were being questioned on Saturday, said Chief Deputy Robert Parris of the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office. Parris declined to release names of the people he was questioning and said no warrants had been issued.

According to Floyd 911 traffic, a third person was being sought in the incident. He is described as a black male, about 6-feet, 1-inch tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He is 22 years old and has tattoo on his abdomen, according to the 911 callout.

Parris said they are searching for “other people who may have knowledge of this incident.”

Parris said it is too early to speculate about the motive behind the shooting.
