Floyd County Schools has seen a reduction in the overall budget from $98,582,214 in 2009 to $92,856,732 in 2011, according to Superintendent
Lynn Plunkett. The furloughs are expected to save the system $1,050,000, school officials said.
Teachers and staff members will have to take three furlough days between this month and June, 2012. The furlough days will not apply to any bus drivers, pre-kindergarten teachers or pre-kindergarten paraprofessionals because bus drivers only work when students are in school and the pre-K program had already experienced cuts in days from the state.
The furlough days will be required to be three non-instructional days during the 2011-2012 school year for all employees taking furloughs
The exact date for each furlough will be designated by the principal of each school and approved by the superintendent.
