ATLANTA — An Atlanta pastor whose church has been struggling to pay its bills is claiming victory in its bid to avoid foreclosure.

Pastor Dexter Johnson tells WXIA-TV the congregation will be allowed to stay in Higher Ground Empowerment Center. He said the bank has agreed to work with the church to help pay its mortgage.

Johnson made the comments during a Tuesday rally, where he thanked members of Occupy Atlanta. Demonstrators had set up an encampment at the church in Atlanta's Vine City neighborhood, just west of downtown.

The church had taken out a loan to rebuild after being struck by a tornado in 2008, and has struggled to pay its mortgage in recent months.
