James Hall is answering the questions for today’s Small Business Snapshot.

What is the primary purpose of your business? The purpose of KidAround is to provide the community with a place to have a private party or family gathering with fun arcade games and bounce house that the kids will enjoy.

What is your business background? We are natives of Rome and started out with a small vending route that grew into a much bigger business that we opened in 2003, “Halls Cotton Candy,” a mobile concession business that has been successful and continues to do well today.

Why did you start this particular business? Since we are family oriented we felt it would be great to open a party center where the facility would only be available to the reserved party and their guests.

What makes your business unique? Once the party is booked it becomes your facility for the time that you have reserved. The arcade games are all set on freeplay so there is no need to have tokens or quarters for any of the games. If a party is not booked we have open play available to the public for a general admission price of $8 for kids 12 and under, and for kids over 13 the price is $10 for unlimited play for two hours.

What do you enjoy most about your chosen profession? Owning our own business is something that we have been wanting to do for a long time, and making families in the community happy and having somewhere the kids can go and have fun is what we like to do. Also, running our own business gives us the opportunity to teach our kids how to operate a business so, a few years down the road, they can expand and manage their own.

What has been the biggest challenge to overcome as a small business owner? Getting people to understand that the service is available.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?We would like to thank the people of Rome and surrounding areas for all of their support throughout the years. We love kids and enjoy putting a smile on their faces. Not only do we offer reservations for birthday parties, we also offer the party room for family reunions, baby showers, sports banquets, play dates and more!
