The first Eastern Orthodox Christian Divine Liturgy in more than 10 years was served in Rome on Feb. 25.

Sponsored by St. Elizabeth Orthodox Church of Woodstock, and served by Fr. Frederick Watson, priest of the church, the Divine Liturgy took place in the sanctuary of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, Rome.

Some 30 persons attended the Divine Liturgy, including seven parishioners of St. Elizabeth. The Divine Liturgy had the blessing of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese, His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios.

The Divine Liturgy is the first of what is expected to be an ongoing effort to serve the Orthodox Christian community in Rome. There is no Orthodox Christian church in Floyd County. For information contact Fr. Frederick at 770-485-0504 or email at fr.frederick@comcast.net.
