College and Career Academy senior brings home the gold

Two high school seniors from Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy came home with medals from the 2012 SkillsUSA competition. The College And Career Academy’s SkillsUSA Chapter attended the SkillsUSA State Conference and Competition on March 15-17.

Twelve students traveled to Atlanta and competed in Photography, Precision Machining Technology, Welding Sculpture and Computer Maintenance. Rebecca Curtis, a senior at Pepperell High School, won the first place gold medal for state of Georgia Outstanding Student, and Jacob Minter, also a senior at Pepperell, took the bronze medal in welding sculpture.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health.
