Robert “Donald” and Linda Weaver were honored with a surprise 50th anniversary party on Friday, April 6, 2012 hosted by their children, at the home of their daughter, Jessica Weaver-Stoll.

Robert, a Rockmart native and Linda, a Rome native, met in 1960 at Shorter Avenue in a Training Union class when Linda introduced herself to “Donald” and asked him to sit with her during church. Such behavior was taboo for a young lady in 1960 but Linda decided that this visitor was worth the risk.

Robert and Linda were married on Friday, April 6, 1962 at Shorter Avenue Baptist Church by Preacher Howard Holcomb. They were blessed with four children: Adonica Budd of Clarkesville, the late Phillip Jerome, Stephen Weaver of San Diego, Calif., and Jessica Weaver-Stoll of Rome.

Mrs. Weaver is the former Linda Brown of Rome.

Robert and Linda are active members of LIFE Church and enjoy working side by side in various volunteer activities.

In addition to raising four children, Robert retired from General Electric with 31 years of service and Linda worked in the office at Horton’s Laundry, Woodmen of the World Insurance, and as a Weight Watchers lecturer.

The most memorable times in their lives are their wedding night as well as the births of their four children and eight grandchildren. Robert and Linda also say that watching their children grow into well-rounded adults makes them so proud.

Robert enjoys walking and playing golf. Linda enjoys working out on the Curves circuit and doing Zumba.

The couple say their secret to a successful marriage is putting God first, allowing Him to be the head of their home.

They say through the good times and bad, their love has grown stronger and after 50 years are still best friends.
