Rome to host junior tennis tournament

Nearly 300 youth tennis players will fill Rome’s tennis courts today as the Georgia State Junior Open Championships get under way.

The tournament, which continues through Sunday and features players ages 10 through 18, will take place at the Rome-Floyd Tennis Center, Etowah Park, Alto Park, Darlington School and Shorter University.

Local players competing are Caroline Ferrari and Sarah Hubbard of Rome, Carly Briggs and Jake Briggs of Calhoun, and Brevin Barnes of Rockmart.

The tournament will bring out-of-state players from Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama and Kentucky.
