For the first time ever, three of Rome’s civic groups came together in one meeting to honor members of local law enforcement at the Coosa Country Club on Tuesday.

The Kiwanis Club, Seven Hills Rotary Club and the Noon Optimist Club hosted a joint meeting to present “Respect for Law” awards to members of several agencies who were

nominated by colleagues for their service and dedication to the community.

All three clubs share a common mission to make Floyd County strong, safe and prosperous, according to Seven Hills Rotary Club President Bill Byars. He commended the perseverance of the officers who work hard on a daily basis to protect the peace of the community.

“No matter how many hours we volunteer, … there is one vital ingredient to an enjoyable life for our children and families that the clubs cannot provide: their safety,” Byars told the packed ballroom.

Dottie Gregg, president of the Kiwanis Club, said the efforts of law enforcement was crucial and appreciated.

“We know that because of what you do our lives are much simpler and our community is much safer,” said Gregg.

The officers honored include:

  • Officer Bryan Goresh of the Rome Police Department

  • Pfc. Mark Sheppard of the Floyd County Police Department

  • Deputy Sheriff Bruce Edmondson of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office

  • Pfc. James Cochran of the Georgia State Patrol

  • Correctional Officer II Cliff Evans of the Floyd County Prison and Work Release Center

Lucy Hale of the American Association of University Women additionally presented flowers to Rome Police Chief Elaine Snow and commended her focus toward decreasing domestic violence in the community.
