The equestrian enthusiasts in Adairsville have created a non-profit organization that will be offering equine-assisted therapy and activities taught by certified instructors to at-risk youth and veterans suffering from psychological/emotional post-traumatic stress disorders associated with war.
Nguyen said an eight-week program would start the first week of June. “We’ll probably do a couple of days a week focused on at-risk youth and one day where we do the veterans,” Nguyen said. The riding lessons/therapy would last an hour at time.
The program is not geared toward handicapped or disabled rides at this time. “We would have to have more equipment and more volunteers,” Nguyen said. “We’re trying to focus on more mental and emotional (impacted) riders right now.”
Grand opening festivities have been scheduled for May 19 from noon - 3 p.m. at KTR Farms.
There will be a cook-out, book fair, meet and greet with the horses, pony rides, a raffle and silent auction.
