Dr. and Mrs. Perry Merrill White of Knoxville, Tenn., announce the engagement of their daughter, Helen Freeman White of Knoxville to Thomas Chandler Cauthen of Rome, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Wayne Cauthen of Rome.

Miss White is a 2007 graduate of Webb School of Knoxville and a 2011 graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. She currently works on the staff of Senator Johnny Isakson in Washington, DC.

The bride-to-be is the sister of Robert White of Greensboro, N.C. and Bryan White of Charlotte, N.C. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Jere F. White Sr. and the late Judge White of Cartersville and Dr. and Mrs. Perry M. White Jr. of Atlanta.

Thomas is a 2008 honor graduate of Rome High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude in political science from the University of Georgia in 2011 and was elected Phi Beta Kappa. He is attending the University of Alabama School of Law on the Dean’s Scholarship and will graduate in 2014.

The groom-to-be is the brother of Rebecca Landis Cauthen of Rome. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jefferson Cauthen and the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Russell Parker of Rome.

The wedding ceremony will be held on September 1, 2012 at Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tenn. A reception will follow at Crescent Bend Andrew Lockett House.
