Rome bands pile up superior ratings all year

The bands of Rome City School system have had a superior year at all performances.

According to a Rome High press release:

Each performing group that has been rated in a marching group, Jazz ensemble, solo or small ensemble, parade band, or concert performance this year has received a Superior rating from all judges. A Superior rating is the highest rating given by a judge at any competition or festival.

The Rome City School bands include seven six grade elementary school bands, one middle school marching band, one 7th grade concert band, one 8th grade concert band, and two middle school Jazz bands. At Rome High School there is one marching band with percussion, colorguard, and drum majors that received all superior ratings.

Rome High School has two concert bands, one Jazz band, three percussion ensembles, and four small ensembles and one solo that also received Superior ratings.

There are 550 students that participate in the Rome City School’s band program. And many of those students participate in multiple ensembles.

The Rome band students are under the direction of Lydell Self, director of bands, with associate directors Mark Hester, Skip Stubblefield and Wade Williams.

Senior picked for Jacksonville State band clinic

Rome high band senior Pierce Henson has been selected to represent the Rome High band at the Jacksonville State University Honor band clinic on May 10-12, 2012.

Pierce has played the French Horn in the Rome High Band for four years and he has been to JSU four time year as a member of the Honor band. He has been in the Rome Symphonic band all four years and the first chair horn during his junior and senior years.

After graduating from Rome High, he plans to attend Mercer University and major in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

Pierce is the son of Scott and Alicia Henson.
