Rome is getting another Mexican restaurant, according to developer Wayne Robinson.

Robinson said Thursday that the old Santa Fe Cattle Co. restaurant on Turner McCall Boulevard will be the home of a Buenavista Mexican Cantina. The Santa Fe steak restaurant left the location in January.

According to owner Glen Garcia, the new restaurant is expected to open Aug. 1. Garcia described the cantina as having a “totally different atmosphere and flavor.”

The original Buenavista Mexican Cantina in Scottsboro, Ala., was founded in 1995 by Garcia. He worked in family-owned restaurants before creating his own.

For more information about the restaurant and to see the menus of the original location, visit www.buenavistacantina.com.

You can start a 'Tour of Mexico" at Los Portales, head down Shorter and hit a Mexican restaurant about every mile. End at the Publix plaza where another Mexican 'cantina' is slated to open. That's about five restaurants and two Mexican grocers on Shorter. Oops, I forgot Las Palmas, that can count down by the Olive Garden. That makes 6 or 7 Mexican eateries on Shorter Not bad. Now can we PLEASE have a Logan's Steakhouse? Obviously, Romans do not cook at home! (I didn't count Moe's, is that Mexican or Tex-mex?)

@MmmHmm

Perhaps the name Garcia tells you that he's sending his money out of the country? Or because it's a Mexican restaurant, it must be importing the very American ingredients at a much higher price from Mexico?

I agree with you on eating healthy, just not on the ignorant bigotry.

Ignorant bigotry? Whatever. Say what you want. Just because my opinions aren't yours, it doesn't make me ignorant or a bigot. The name "Garcia" doesn't tell me anything as I didn't pay any attention to the name. Like many others that post anything they want on here, I actually didn't take the time to read what little story there is. My comment is based on the title alone. As in "another mexican restaurant?" Also as in "why is everything in Rome seemingly catering to latinos?" Funny how its ok for people like you to get on here and spew anything you want and then allow those whose screen names you know and feel all comfy going back and forth with. Yet, just like a roman, if there is someone you don't know, you try anything you can try and make yourself seem better than them. Again, whatever.
YIKES!!

This will prevent me from having to go an extra whole half mile either way to go to another Mexican restaurant...

I guess market saturation really doesn't mean a lot.

Yeah, I sure was hoping a Ruby Tuesday or a Logan Roadhouse would open up at that location. You are right, we really need another refried bean joint.

Gigity, my bank account can't handle a Logan's in Rome.
