Mrs. Joseph Michael Byrd
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen R. Horner of Dothan, Ala. The parents of the groom are Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs. Donald R. Byrd of Birmingham, Ala.
Father Michael Deering of Gardendale, performed the ceremony before an altar enhanced with green palms and two large arrangements of crimson and ivory cut flowers on stands. Pews were marked with arrangements of red roses, red berries, and ivory satin bows. The flowers in the sanctuary were dedicated in loving memory of Thomas Byrd, Memory Chapman, Elizabeth Majerik, and Peter Majerik.
Scripture was read by Christopher Joseph Muro and Mr. Troy Wayne Studyvin of Birmingham, friends of the groom.
Cahaba River Strings, pianist Derek Kluz, and vocalist Amy Byrd Brady presented a program of nuptial music. Selections included “Londonderry Air,” “Canon in D,” “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” “Trumpet Voluntary” and “Hornpipe From Watermusic.” Amy Byrd Brady sang “ How Beautiful” by Twila Paris.
Ivory programs were distributed by Jackson Daniel Moore-Ragusin and Daniel Liam Moore Fritsch, cousins of the bride, of Acworth.
The matron of honor was Kimberly Banner Manuel of Johnston City, Tenn. The bridesmaids were Amanda Kaitlyn Moore Fritsch and Sarah Louise Moore-Ragusin, of Acworth, cousins of the bride, as well as Chitra Ramesh Kirpalani and Carrie Kristen Moore of Birmingham.
The attendants wore strapless identical floor-length gowns of crimson satin. Matching accessories, pearl earrings, and necklaces, which were a gift from the bride, complemented their ensembles. They each carried a hand-tied bouquet of white roses with ivory ribbon.
The flower girls were Caleigh Dawn Brasfield and Maggie Claire Von Hagel, both of Birmingham. They wore identical floor-length gowns of soft ivory organza over taffeta featuring a red satin cummerbund. They carried ivory satin baskets filled with red rose petals and wore matching pearl necklaces that were a gift from the bride.
The bride, escorted by her father, wore a gown of ivory satin with chapel train. Crystal and pearl embroidery adorned the fitted bodice, which was topped by a band of oyster satin. Oyster satin formed the jeweled waistband, and the softly gathered skirt was also edged with a band of oyster satin. The cathedral length veil, embellished with Nottingham lace appliqués and crystals, complemented the ensemble. She wore a pair of earrings and a necklace of crystals and pearls. The bride carried a hand-tied bouquet of red roses. The best man was the groom’s father. Groomsmen were Andrew Allan Brasfield, Phillip Joseph Palmer Jr., John Phillip Troha, and Stephen Nicholas Von Hagel, all of Birmingham.
The mother of the bride wore a two-piece formal length gown of midnight blue taffeta. The ensemble featured a fitted layered bodice with crystal embellishments topping the full skirt. The bridegroom’s mother wore a two- piece formal length gown of silver taffeta. Layers of ruffles accented the fitted skirt. Each wore a corsage of white roses. Corsages of white roses were also presented to Mrs. Dan Moore and Margaret Horner, grandmothers of the bride; and Audrey Byrd, grandmother of the groom.
After the ceremony, a dinner was served in the ballroom at the Wynfrey Hotel. The bride’s cake was a four-tiered, square, white confection adorned with clusters of red roses cascading down the cake. Layers were accented with pearl beading, scrollwork, and the couple’s monogram. The rectangular groom’s cake was a three-tiered chocolate design accented with a top layer of white and black hounds-tooth.
On the evening before the wedding, the groom’s parents entertained family members and out-of-town guests with a rehearsal dinner at The Historic Tutwiler Hotel in Birmingham. A bridal breakfast for the bridesmaids and out-of town guests was given for the bride by her aunts, Elizabeth Ragusin, and Dana Fritsch, at the Wynfrey Hotel.
After a wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple resides in Birmingham.
