Roger and Barbara Clemons recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a a renewal of their vows and a party hosted by their children.

The couple were married April 22, 1962 at Pine Forest Missionary Baptist church in Bainbridge by the Rev. E. R. Cloud.

The couple met at a college skating party while students at Berry College.

Mrs. Clemons is the former Barbara Griffin of Bainbridge. She completed her career in education by teaching in Rome and Floyd County for 40 years. While teaching, she added a Master’s Degree and Specialist Degree from the University of West Georgia.

Mr. Clemons, a Gadsden, Ala., native, fulfilled his military obligation with the United States Air Force, serving in Chanute, Ill.; Royal Airforce Base, Alconbury England; and Charlston Air Force Base, S.C.

He completed his career in vocational rehabilitation at the rome Rehabilitation Center. While serving as center manager, he did graduate work at the University of Alabama and added a Master’s Degree in vocational rehabilition from Auburn University. After retirement, he was an ordained Baptist minister and served in a volunteer position at Mt. Alto Baptist church for several years.

The couple have two children, Corbin Lee Lemons of Lawrenceville and Lynn Clemons Pilgrim of Dallas.

The have nine grandchildren.

The couple has always been involved in their church and ministering to others. They enjoy traveling, entertaining and spending time with family and friends, especially their grandchildren.

The say they do not possess a “secret” for a successful marriage, but feel that if a couple will obey God and follow his guidance, everything else will fall into place.
