FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) — Commanders of Army units at Fort Stewart plan a busy Memorial Day traveling to events across southeast Georgia.

The Army post's commander, Maj. Gen. Robert Abrams, was scheduled to speak Monday at the Liberty County American Legion's annual ceremony in neighboring Hinesville.

Meanwhile, two of Fort Stewart's combat brigade commanders — Col. Douglas C. Cardinale and Col. Kimo C. Gallahue — are scheduled to speak at Memorial Day events in Richmond Hill and Glennville. And two of the post's battalion commanders are traveling to holiday ceremonies in Metter and Vidalia.

Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River. It's home to the 3rd Infantry Division, which has 22,000 soldiers. The division served four tours in Iraq. Some of its units are now serving in Afghanistan.
