Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Adult Literacy Program selected former GED graduate Amanda Gulledge Friddell as the 2012 winner of the college’s G.E.D.D. Award.

“It stands for Goals, Excellence, Determination, and Difference,” said Coleen Brooks, GNTC Gordon County Campus Adult Education Lead Instructor. “We select a graduate from our past that exemplifies a drive and record for pursuing these four things. Amanda truly does that.”

In a ceremony on May 23, GED administrators placed a plaque on their GED Wall of Honor on the Gordon County Campus. The GEDD award is presented to a deserving alumnus ever y year. Brooks presented Friddell with the honor. Brooks has served as the program’s lead instructor since 1993.

Friddell was a 1995 graduate of the GNTC GED program. During that same year, the college also nominated her for the State of Georgia EAGLE Award. It stands for Exceptional Adult Georgia in Literacy Education.

In 2000, after working with the Department of Family and Children Services in Gordon County, she relocated to Tennessee where she and her husband, Dr. David Friddell made their way into the construction business. Today, they own and operate the multi-million dollar operation Friddell Homes.

The couple also pastors at The Oasis Revival Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee and has their services broadcasted on area television providers across the region.

“We are blessed more than we deserve. God had blessed us beyond measure,” said Friddell. “I’m truly thankful for this honor and appreciate what the college did for me.”

The Adult Education Program at Georgia Northwestern Technical College offers classes and instruction in Adult Learning Centers in Cedartown, Rome, Rockmart, Calhoun, Summerville, Rock Spring, Lafayette, Ringgold, and Trenton. Adults of all ages can enroll for free classes.

The environment is designed to give special attention to adults returning to school to resume educational programs which were interrupted in earlier years. All instructional materials are available for student use at no cost. Classes operate year round on the Georgia Northwestern Technical College calendar—spring, summer, and fall semesters.
