PLEASE BE AWARE of our local representation in Washington and the danger our liberties are in. Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Marietta, voted for the National Defense Authorization Act (HR 1540 in 2011, and now HR4310 for 2012).

The bills give the federal government the power to detain anyone who is deemed to be a threat to the United States on U.S. soil, indefinitely without due process. This clearly violates the Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The law is being challenged in the courts as of the day of its passage this year, and has already been ruled unconstitutional by U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest on May 16 of this year. Yet our local representative thinks he is above the courts and has voted to take away this fundamental right twice.

Call Mr. Gingrey’s office and let him know that he answers to “We, the people” and that he is sworn to uphold this document called the U.S. Constitution. He has two full-time aides in the Rome office plus interns, more in the Marietta office and there’s always the Washington office to assist you. (Now multiply that times 435.) Mr. Gingrey is about to get his fifth term in office uncontested, another career politician.
