Burglaries on the rise in Rockmart

Rockmart has seen a rise in the number of burglaries over the past few months, according to Police Chief Keith Sorrells.

“We have had it 14 times this month (May), which is up considerably,” he said.

Sorrells said incidents have been reported on Ridgewood Drive, Martin Luther King Jr. Street, Arbor Chase Parkway, Jones Avenue and Bluff, Forrest, and Hunter Streets just to name a few.

“It’s no particular place,” he said. “We’ve had several where windows are broken out. We’ve had several where a door was kicked in.”

Sorrells said thieves are seeking out only a couple of items, namely flat-screen televisions and jewelry.
