Mr and Mrs. Wayne Hughes of Armuchee announce the engagement of their daughter, Jamie Marie Hughes of Rome to Derek Anderson Schmidt of Rome. He is the son of Gary and Judy Schmidt of Armuchee.

Miss Hughes is a 2005 graduate of Armuchee High School and a 2011 Graduate of Georgia Highlands College with an associate of science and nursing degree. She is employed at Floyd Medical Center.

The bride-to-be is the sister of John Hughes of Cartersville. She is the granddaughter of Hattie Sue Hughes of Armuchee, Lydia Dale Kell of Rome, the late Dan Hershel Hughes and the late Preston Calhoun Kell.

Schmidt is a 2006 graduate of Armuchee High School. He is employed at ACTO Fire Protection.

He is the brother of Jacob Schmidt of Rome and the grandson of Linda Ann Ranking of Palmharbor, Fla., Marvin Joseph Schmidt and Marilea Ruth Schmidt of Hartfort, Kan., and the late Robert Anderson Rankin.

The wedding is scheduled for Oct. 20, 2012 in Rome. A reception will follow. Formal invitations will be sent.
