A power outage in Rome this morning left 14,000 customers without power, but for only a short time according to Georgia Power.

John Craft from Georgia Power's public relations office in Atlanta reported that a tree fell on a power line this morning, knocking out several areas at once.

"Once they had the tree cleared, they were able to restore power to that large group of customers pretty quickly," he said.

The outage lasted around 30 minutes and included the Redmond Circle and Road area along with Armuchee, he said.

Craft said a few customers might still be experiencing an outage, but that it was unlikely related to this morning's outage.

I understand Georgia Power being out, but there was an outage in North Georgia Electric's area, too. The two aren't connected, are they?

It irritates me that GA Power gets all the coverage with RN-T, but there's a significant part of Floyd County has other power sources. It would be nice if the RN-T paid attention to the rest of us.

I finally found a map and some info. I had thought that there was an EMC that serviced parts of the southern county, but it's all GaPower. Oglethorpe operates the Rocky Mountain storage facility, but it doesn't provide service here.

NGEMC services all the handle at the top of the county, but it's still a small percentage of Floyd, especially considering the low population density. Still, it's significant if you live there.
