Rome tennis player Hubbard wins doubles final, finishes runner-up in singles final

The opponent who defeated Rome tennis player Sarah Hubbard on Thursday in the finals of the Georgia State Junior Closed Challenger also turned out to be an ally.

Hubbard was defeated by Kristen Jones, 6-2, 6-2, in the girls 18 singles final, but the two teamed up to defeat Peyton Gollhofer and fellow Roman Caroline Ferrari in the 18 doubles final.

Hubbard and Jones won, 8-5.

Douglas Law, also of Rome, and teammate Austin McCormick fell just short of a boys 18 doubles title in an 8-6 loss in the final.

Calhoun Carly Briggs was defeated in the consolation finals in her 12 singles matchup against Elena Wernecke, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (4).

Briggs also competed in 12 doubles with Lillie Patton. The players reached the semifinals before being defeated, 8-5.

Roman Andrew Rolan and Jake Briggs, of Calhoun, teamed up in boys 14 doubles. The duo was defeated in the quarterfinals, 8-5.
