Towels were a key item on Sunday at the Rome Floyd Tennis Center, as players were constantly needing to dry off their faces, hands and arms during a sweat-inducing day.

With temperatures in the 90s, players battled their way through the second day of play at Southern Boys and Girls 16 Closed tournament.

Among the winners in the boys’ singles bracket in the Round of 64 were Korey Lovett, Jayanth Chintham, Alexander Miller and Sam Edwards.

Lovett and Edwards each won in straight sets.

On the girls side, Jacqueline Carr, Sena Suswam, Rachel McNeely, and Suzanne Zenoni were each winners to move into the round of 32.

Carr, Suswam, McNeely and Zenoni each posted straight-set victories.

The event resumes today and runs through Saturday.
