A Rome man was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center on Sunday afternoon following a dirtbike wreck at a private residence on Lady Lou Ellis Road in Cave Spring at about 4:30 p.m., but he is in stable, satisfactory condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

According to Floyd County Police officer Jerome Poole:

Tom Bojo was riding his son’s dirt bike to a neighbor’s house when he lost control of the bike and wrecked it. He sustained a head injury from the wreck.

The bike only traveled 12 feet from where he lost control to the point where he came to rest, so speed was not a factor in the wreck, Poole said.

Bojo, a former Rome police officer, is now the dean of Academic Affairs for Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Whitfield and Murray campus. Gerald McFry, GNTC program director of Business Management, said he spoke with Bojo and his family Monday and believes Bojo will make a full recovery.

“He’s doing a lot better, he’s just real sore,” McFry said. “His left eye is black and swollen shut and the left side of his face is skinned up.”

McFry said Bojo was driving the bike to the neighbor’s home when the front wheel locked up and caused him to wreck. He landed on the concrete on the left side of his face.

Bojo sustained a concussion and some bleeding to his brain but that has stopped, he said. He was alert and conscious while talking the phone and is expected to make a full recovery.

“His wife texted me and said all news is good and they’re going to keep him at the hospital for a couple more days just to be safe,” said McFry.
