KATHLEEN, Ga. (AP) — Houston County authorities say a 17-year-old girl fatally shot her 12-year-old sister before setting fire to the family home.

Authorities say Carmen Collins and her younger sister, India, were at home alone on Tuesday evening when Carmen Collins obtained a .40-caliber handgun and shot her sister multiple times. Police say Carmen Collins then used gasoline to set fire to the inside of the house.

Authorities say Carmen Collins fled the scene still armed, with the family's white poodle. Carmen Collins was arrested early Thursday morning in Columbus, Ga.

An investigation into the shooting and suspected arson is ongoing. Houston County Lt. Jon Holland calls the case tragic and says a motive in the case is still unknown.
