Mrs. Joshua Matthew Farmer
Rev. Mac McCurry, pastor of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church, and Dr. Alan D. Hix, father of the bride, performed the double-ring ceremony. The vows were adapted from The Resolution of the movie “Courageous.”
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Alan D. Hix of Rome and the granddaughter of Edna Hix of Rome and the late Kenneth Hix. She is also the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Kelly of Rome. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Farmer of Rome and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Yardley of Nucla, Colo., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Gibson.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father. She wore a gown of white satin designed
with beads and pearls with a long train, a gift from the groom’s aunt, Wanda Hardin of North Carolina. She wore an elbow-length Spanish veil with scalloped edges decorated with beads and pearls to match the dress. Her jewelry included a pearl necklace and earrings given to her by her mother. She carried a bouquet of yellow roses and gerber daisies with blue hydrangea. The groom wore a white shawl-collared dinner jacket with a black tuxedo vest and pants with a boutonniere of yellow roses and blue hydrangea.
Sarah Godfrey of Rome and Storme Jordan of Silver Creek, served as maid of honor and bridesmaid, respectively. They wore tea length, one-shoulder white satin dresses with yellow shoes and carried bouquets of yellow roses. Abigail Farmer of Aragon, niece of the groom, was the flower girl. She wore a white halter dress decorated with beads and pearls with a short train, also a gift from Wanda Hardin. She carried a basket covered in white satin with a white satin bow filled with yellow rose petals.
Jason Farmer of Aragon and Jonathan Farmer of Rome, brothers of the groom, served as best man and groomsman, respectively. They wore black tuxedos with yellow rose boutonnieres. The ring bearer was Landon Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brian Stephenson of Cedartown. David Barton of Rome and Jacob Thrasher of Rome served as ushers.
James Willis of Rome performed the pre-service music. Mr. Joshua Allen of Thomasville performed the “Butterfly Waltz,” “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” and “Prelude and Fuge in C Major.” During the lighting of the unity candle, Joshua Allen performed “Whither Thou Goest” on the Irish flute.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Palladium in Rome. The wedding cake was four varied-sized tiers of snickerdoodle cake decorated with white frosting with a different detailed lace and pearl design on each tier. It was topped with a porcelain bride and groom. The cake was a gift baked and designed by Lynnette Godfrey of Rome. Each table was decorated with a centerpiece featuring a yellow rose submerged in water with a blue floating candle on top in a mason jar.
The evening before the wedding, the groom’s family hosted a rehearsal dinner for the wedding party and out of town guests at their residence in Rome. Other prenuptial activities included three wedding showers given by Rhonda Farmer, mother of the groom, Sarah Godfrey and Katie Woodringm aunt of the bride.
After a wedding trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn., the couple will reside in Rome.
