Tennis: More than 650 in town for Georgia State Junior Open

Tennis sites throughout Rome will be filled this week as the Georgia State Junior Open gets under way today.

The tournament will feature more than 650 players from Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi, Washington, Maryland, Colorado, Texas, Louisiana, Virginia, Washington D.C., Indiana, California, Illinois, Arkansas and West Virginia.

Local players competing in the tournament are Caroline Ferrari, Sarah Hubbard, Douglas Law and Andrew Rolan of Rome.

Calhoun players Carly Briggs, Jake Briggs and McCartney Kessler will also compete. They will be joined by Tanner Mehrkens and Matthew Roberson of Cedartown.

Action will take place at the Rome-Floyd Tennis Center, Alto Park, Berry College, Darlington School, Etowah Park, Rome High and Shorter University.

The tournament will continue through Thursday.
