Floyd County gets over half an inch of rain in morning deluge

More rain appears to be on the way after heavy rains with frequent lightning hit Rome and Floyd County this morning. Approximately .63 inches of rain fell as of 11 a.m. according to the rain gauge at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport. At 8:30 a.m. the turn lane at Turner McCall and North Fifth Avenue was flooded over, according to police and many of the outside lanes of Second Avenue were immersed in water.

According to the National Weather Service:

Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 2 p.m. High near 89. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
