Williams confirmed that a deal was in the works but said that paperwork had not been completed. In fact, Williams said he expected to close early this week but was notified by bank officials just before closing last Friday, July 13, that the paperwork was not complete.
Williams, who is 69 years of age, has been in the automotive industry locally for 50 years.
“I’m tired,” Williams said with a laugh Friday afternoon.
Williams has held the local Chrysler franchise for 32 years. His original dealership was located on Rockmart Highway, and then he moved to Martha Berry Boulevard across from Scant’s Corner before moving to his current location on Calhoun Highway.
Reid owns several dealerships, including his flagship Kia lot on North Tennessee Street in Cartersville. In addition to the Kia store, Reid also has a Hyundai franchise on Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville and at one time had a Mitsubishi dealership on Martha Berry Highway near Mount Berry Square mall.
The Rome News-Tribune attempted to contact Reid on Friday, July 20, for comment. However calls to his primary dealership in Cartersville were not returned.
