Jeanie and Alfred Buffington of Rome celebrated their 50th anniversary on July 1, 2012 with a ceremony renewing their wedding vows in the sanctuary of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church by the Reverend Brian Crisp.

Music included “We’ve Got So Much to Thank Him For,” “The Lighthouse,” and “The Lord’s Prayer” were sung by Janet Couey and Leeanne Porterfield. A recording of “Look at Us” was also enjoyed.

Their granddaughter served as flower girl. A reception following the ceremony was hosted by their family in the church’s fellowship hall.

The couple were married by Dr. J. E. Dake at the DeSoto Park Baptist Church on July 1, 1962.

Mr. and Mrs. Buffington grew up in Rome and Floyd County. Alfred is the son of Samuel O. and Mary Gladys Buffington. He is a 1959 graduate of Coosa High School. He is retired from United Parcel Service.

Mrs. Buffington is the former Jeanie Clemones, daughter of W.M. (Bill) and Mary Evelyn (Evie) Clemones. She is a 1962 graduate of Pepperell High School.

Mr. and Mrs. Buffington have enjoyed both domestic and international travels. Other interests include gardening, fishing, swimming, golf, and baseball. They say that fun activities with family bring them the most enjoyment.

An anniversary trip is planned for the fall.

Alfred and Jeanie give all the praise, honor and glory to God for his blessings through their 50 years together. They attribute laughter and a good sense of humor as necessary to a long and successful marriage.
