Traffic on Redmond Circle was partially shut down early Wednesday afternoon while firefighters and police cleared the scene of a wreck involving a truck and a detached boat and trailer.

The aluminum fishing boat was partially crumpled and its trailer dented after it separated from a white Ford F-350 being driven westbound by Gregory Smith of Plainville, according to Rome Police Pfc. Danny Story.

The errant boat rolled across several lanes of traffic and collided with the front end of a white Ford F-150 owned by the Rome Water Department. The vehicle, driven by Jeff Wenzel of Calhoun, was traveling eastbound.

The force of the impact caused the airbag to deploy in Wenzel’s truck, and he received a minor laceration to his cheek that did not require treatment. The collision caused the boat to come off of its trailer, and various bits of debris from the loaded boat were dispersed along the roadway.

Smith was charged with failure to secure a load.

I was pulled over by a Georgia state patrol for only having one chain. I was informed that if I didn't have a second chain the next time I would be charged. This took place in Dallas Ga. I guess you can fight that in court but I didn't mind adding another one. I had one looped thru he said no the law was two chains.

Please know this....YOUR STATE HAS NOT SAFETY CHAIN LAW IN GEORGIA!!! Every hitch in America...every trailer in America can be HOMEMADE!! LOOK AT THE TOTAL PIECE OF YOU KNOW WHAT....would anybody put a baby on a homemade baby seat?

Then why are you allowed to tow something that never gets inspected and has no safety standards on PUBLIC ROADS THAT HURTS AND DESTROYS OTHERS AND NO GOVERNMENT AGENCY GIVES A HOOT INCLUDING Henrico county Police Virgil Hazlett.....Ray LaHood and Donald Karol of the NTSB...go to www.dangeroustrailers.org

That seems like the trailer that comes with these boats. If you look at picture number 5 it looks like a chain on the hitch. But he still got a ticket as you can see in another picture. Even towing a car with a tow truck you are required by law to have two safety chains. Anything on a truck has to be tide down with a 3 point method. That's just the start of the laws in Georgia on towing and hauling. The inspection comes when they pull you over. They do check the details.
