WASHINGTON (AP) — Most of America doesn't relate to Mitt Romney's religion, but that may not matter in his race against President Barack Obama.

Those are the findings of a new Pew Research Center poll released a month before Romney is set to become the first Mormon presidential nominee of a major political party.

The survey found widespread misgivings about the Mormon religion.

Nearly two-thirds of non-Mormons see Romney's faith as very different from their own. Just half consider it a Christian faith.

Despite that level of discomfort, the poll shows Romney is still locked in a very close race with Obama. The survey also found that those who know Romney is a devout Mormon say they are comfortable with his religious beliefs.

crawfish.creek:

Admit it, you (and tons of other republicans) are talking to hear yourself work up the gumption to vote for a bishop in a religion many mainstream Christians have labled a cult.

Meanwhile, you are refusing to vote for a person who has repeatedly defended his personal faith, which happens to be Christianity, against accusations of being a muslim or other.

Get ready to swallow hard: hypocrisy is a bitter pill.
