DALTON — The City Council has sent its proposal for how to split the 1-cent local option sales tax to the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners.

The LOST currently brings in about $17.2 million a year and must be periodically renegotiated.

The proposal calls for commissioners to create special tax districts for services that city officials say are provided exclusively to those outside the Dalton city limits, such as by the county fire department and county engineer, as well as the county’s share of joint services such as the library and the Dalton-Whitfield Joint Development Authority.
