A Rome man was in jail Sunday, July 29, after allegedly assaulting a police officer with a vehicle at Dillard’s Music Park.

According to Floyd County jail reports:

Frando Sanchez, 27, of 9 Conn St., was leaving the music park off Calhoun Road late Saturday when his car allegedly struck a Floyd County deputy who was working security. The contact was enough to cause damage to the deputy’s sidearm.

Sanchez did not stop and reportedly tried to hit another deputy before he drove out onto the main road and headed toward downtown Rome.

The suspect was taken into custody about 40 minutes after the incident and charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault on a police officer as well as criminal damage to property and public drunkenness, both misdemeanors.

Police have not been able to independently verify the suspect’s identity and are holding Sanchez in the Floyd County Jail pending a bond hearing.
