THERE IS A very active chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) in Rome that meets every second Thursday of the month at 11:30 a.m. at the Landmark Restaurant, on Martha Berry Boulevard. The Rome Chapter is comprised of about 100 active and retired civil service members, residing throughout Northwest Georgia.

There are numerous NARFE chapters located in most communities throughout Georgia, and the rest of the nation, and chapter members have worked for many federal agencies.

Nationally, NARFE’s mission has remained the same since 1921: To preserve and enhance the retirement benefits of federal civil service retirees, as well as current employees and their families.

NARFE is presently undergoing a drive among its chapters to collect funds for Alzheimer’s research. Our local chapter is presently contacting local businesses and individuals to solicit funds or to provide items for the chapter’s silent auction in September. All funds collected will then be forwarded to NARFE’s national headquarters, and then in turn be added to funds collected by all chapters across the state and country, and then forwarded to the national headquarters for Alzheimer’s research.

Membership in NARFE is open to civilians who are or will be eligible to receive an annuity or survivor annuity from the federal civil service retirement programs of any agency of the United States government, and membership is open to all such retirees, active federal employees as well as spouses and surviving spouses of those eligible to join NARFE.

If you qualify for membership in NARFE and are not currently a member, I encourage you to contact me 706-232-1986 or Carol Winkle at 770-773-6701.
