Elections Supervisor Barbara Berry said she had been contacted about requirements for an independent candidate, but no one picked up the forms.
Today would have been the deadline for an independent Sole Commissioner candidate to turn in the signatures of 1,799 registered voters. A qualifying fee of $2,290 also would have been due by noon Aug. 3.
Heiskell narrowly beat G. Paul Shaw in the Republican primary, with a 5,326 to 5,115 vote. There is no Democrat running for the post.
The last option for a challenger whose votes would be counted in November would be as a write-in candidate. To be eligible, candidates must register with the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office by Sept. 4.
