A line of storms appears to be heading through Rome around noon and may bring some severe weather. The first line of storms today dropped .24 inches of rain at the monitoring station at Richard B. Russell Airport as of 2 p.m.

Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and frequent lightning. Otherwise we should see partly sunny skies, with a high near 91 , according to the National Weather Service. Heat index values could reach as high as 98.

Tonight there a chance of showers and thunderstorms with a low around 68.

Friday A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11am and 2pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
