Sunday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m., Journey Church of Rome, located at 15 Redmond Court, will launch its grand opening worship service where two free Kindle Fires will be raffled off.
“It’s going to be a huge day for us. We expect a large crowd,” said Journey’s Pastor Douglas Crumbly. “We want to bless Rome and give back to this community.”
Crumbly and his co-pastor and wife Debbie Crumbly are devoted to fostering a place where all types of people feel welcome, he said.
Journey Church is a place where people of all different cultures can come together and worship as one.
“We’re growing like crazy already,” said Crumbly. “We welcome different cultural backgrounds, different races, different ethnic backgrounds, different economic backgrounds, mixed couples. We’re intentional when it comes to reaching multiple cultures.”
Crumbly said the 18-30-age range is the fastest growing population in the congregation. The music, he said, features a wide variety of musical genres and styles.
“It gets loud,” he said. “We mix traditional and contemporary styles.”
Both Douglas and Debbie Crumbly have been in ministry for 25 years, Crumbly said, and he believes God directed him and his wife back to Rome, where they originally grew up.
“Our roots run deep here,” Crumbly said. “We love our city and we wanted to add value to the city as well as the people here. We are looking forward to partnering with other churches and businesses in our community to make a significant difference in the lives of people in Rome and the surrounding communities.”
